What is the CTA?
computer technology assistance corps in America
The Computer Technology Assistance Corps is a non-profit organization that provides computer services to people with disabilities and disadvantages. The CTA also assists them with their education, career pursuits, independent living skills, and social development. They help connect people to resources for better personal and professional support systems.
The Computer Technology Assistance Corps was founded on the idea that no matter what your abilities are, you should be able to share your thoughts and ideas through the use of computers.
CTAC has served more than 3 million clients across the world since it started in 1989. It currently has more than 1,200 volunteers who provide services for about 26 hours a week each.
What are the requirements to join?
To become a volunteer with the tech help corps, you need to be at least 18 years old, have an interest in computer technology, and want to make a positive change. To be successful as a volunteer, you should also be comfortable working on your own with little supervision.
The application process is relatively quick, and once you’re accepted into the program, you’ll attend two eight-hour training sessions to learn about how to provide tech support remotely for organizations in need of it. You’ll also learn about the Tech Help Corps’ policies and guidelines during this time.
After completing the training sessions, volunteers go through an orientation period where they shadow mentors who have completed their first three months of service.
How long is the service term?
Technicians typically commit to a three-month, six-month, or twelve-month service term. This gives both the technician and the organization time to determine if it is a good fit. The three-month commitment is perfect for someone who has limited availability and wants to see how they like the work before committing. A six-month commitment is ideal for those with a bit more flexibility and who can commit to the program without making major changes in their life. Twelve months provides ample time for someone looking for a long-term commitment and has no other obligations that would conflict with this service obligation.
What type of training will I receive?
The Computer Technology Assistance Corps program will provide training to help you learn how to install and maintain computer networks, how to troubleshoot a system, how to install operating systems, and many other skills that are crucial for the IT field. You will also be trained in software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Autodesk Inventor. The best part is that the program includes hands-on training with state-of-the-art equipment.
Computer Technology Assistance Corps trainees also have opportunities for mentorship from professional IT experts who can offer advice on careers, internships, and scholarships. With this invaluable support from experienced mentors, Computer Technology Assistance Corps trainees have a head start on securing internships or jobs upon graduation.
What are the benefits of serving with CTA?
CTA is a non-profit organization that provides computer-related services to those who cannot afford them. Volunteers are trained to offer basic IT services, such as help with email, word processing, and internet browsing. CTA also helps people find jobs, prepare taxes and apply for Social Security. Volunteering can be a great way to get hands-on experience with computers, build skills and make new friends.
Where will I be stationed?
There are no set locations for our officers. While based out of the United States, we work throughout the world with various organizations to provide IT and computer training. As an officer, you will be placed at the request of your partner organization or where there is a need for your skillset.
We look for people who can excel as part of a team on projects with tight deadlines, have superior interpersonal communication skills, possess strong organizational abilities, and can think creatively and critically when faced with challenging problems. Above all else, you should enjoy what you do every day because this work is demanding.
When can I start my service?
Our service is available to assist you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our Service Representatives are available to answer your questions and provide solutions for any technological need. In addition, our service allows you to submit a request for help at any time of the day or night by simply filling out the Request Assistance form located on this site.
Most computer repair services require you to bring your computer into the store or office before they can diagnose and fix it. As a result, most customers must wait until their computers stop working completely before they can get them fixed. With our system, we’ll be able to diagnose your problem over the phone or the Internet regardless of where you are currently located so that we can find an appropriate solution right away.
How do I apply?
If you are a veteran and would like to apply for CTAC, please visit the Application Portal on our website. You will be asked to fill out an online application and provide your DD214, Veteran’s ID card number, or any other form of identification that identifies you as a veteran. Once this is submitted, there will be another link that sends you to a page where you can upload your resume. This is important because we want to see what skills and experience you have acquired through your time spent serving our country. We have three sessions per year: Summer (June – August), Fall (September – November), and Winter (December – April). Applications for the Winter session are currently open. If selected for the program, you will be contacted by CTAC with more information about getting started.
Who can I contact for more information?
At CTAC, we’re fighting to make a difference. We exist to help give every citizen the resources they need to better themselves, wherever they are, and however, they want to do it. With over 100 million Americans below the poverty line, over 14 million unemployed, and over 16 million without medical coverage for the first time- our economy is on its knees. The most heart-wrenching statistic of all is that over 587 thousand homeless children are living in poverty- many because their parents cannot afford rent or cannot get by working minimum wage jobs.
Conclusion
This organization is an example of one that is helping other countries by providing them with the knowledge and resources they need to be able to keep up with and improve their technological capabilities. It’s amazing how much this organization has been able to do and it’s only been around for a year. They have all these great programs that are going to be doing so many different things. This is one of the best organizations I’ve ever seen, and I’m excited about all the great things they’re going to accomplish in the future.
